Hello those of us that enjoy the possible return of fine shopping in downtown Palm Springs. Hello I am Logic the corporate mascot for Viper Logic.

Ok true we own the domain name PalmSpringsShopping.com so nothing would make us happier then to see the downtown Palm Springs shopping return. This can mean a lot of money to us and in this tough economy we could really use the money by developing this domain name into a place that promotes all shopping both for locals as well as visitors to our great city.

Tonight on our local television we will here the 5th plan from the 15 acre property that is the hottest location in our downtown. It is our City Council Meeting night so Logic will watch but always be thinking is this another plan or is this one going to go forward FAST.

All we can say for our city, is that the current available shopping in Palm Springs is the worst I can ever remember since starting to arrive here as a visitor in 1964. Moved here in 1999 and have heard about this mall and the promises since arriving here.

This city needs to think about the youth, our future needs to depend on the young to bring their children here when they grow up and have their own families.

Logic can say we wish that the spring break party days of the 80's were never taken away by our city government. Cool

Hey hello Logic here to report on the city council meeting held Wednesday April 30th in the Palm Springs City Hall Building.

The Land holder for the old Palm Springs Mall / Fashion Plaza the actual mall is still open but hey I am to embarrassed and it should truly be illegal to call that place Palm Springs Mall (oh own that domain name too PalmSpringsMall.com came into the meeting and shared his plan number 5 and lord and be hold (me down) time.

It was the same old build more retail in the front of the 16 acres with condo living behind that but between the Palm Springs Museum and the main downtown strip Palm Canyon Drive.

This is NOT what Palm Springs needs nor is Logic a builder. This during the slowest real estate times seen since the late 80's in California and Palm SPrings in . Riverside County is rated the single worst home market in the USA in the last report we say.

Ok Logic has friends in the real estate repossession business this the busiest they have been in over 40 years right here in the Coachella Valley.

How back to where Palm Springs is sitting in regards to building more places in particularly the condo town house side of living.

Palm Springs is part of the issue in regards to condos in the USA as we recently read that there are over 850,000 condos built waiting for owners all over the country. In Palm Springs we have project started then canceled. (Lennar to mention 1).

We have a lot of brand new condo complexes built with no one owning them or if sold no one living in them. We have a lot of graded locations with great colorful signs for pre-sign ups but the weeds have began to re-grow up from behind these lovely green covered chain link fences that now display lovely gang signs and other pleasant graffiti all along the Palm Canyon Drive through way (the areas the tourists arrive an wonder through these areas of our city.

We have more condos available then visitors into Palm Springs these days.

There is more empty retail in Palm Springs then the proposed number of retail, spaces then the Mall owner wants to build. What retail we have still operating in Palm Springs is at best on a scale of shopping pleasure of 1 to 10, 10 being Beverly Hills, California or Fashion Island Newport Beach, California we are sitting at a 2 to be gentle to our retail friends.

Logic is not tired of Palm Springs and decided to begin bagging on the city and its operations but rather it is important that the PsViewer's now that Palm Springs is is need of critical help and we are fearing a financial struggle in regards to the City of Palm Springs tax and TOT (transient occupancy tax room tax the visitors pay that rose here last year).

Builders they just like to build, and cities they just like growth through additional taxes collected and builder fees, however there are two larger issues that should truly be addressed for Palm Springs.

Issue 1 = There is the infrastructure, you know the wires that bring you your Internet and electricity, the piping that brings you your water and natural gas and finally the streets that allow you to go places.

See the City of Palm Springs started out to be a visitor place for the rich and the famous and the occasional seasonal visitors (that was so long ago they, those that came here enjoyed and who all are completely dead and gone today) the streets, wires and piping could handle these types of loads, however today the streets are high arched in the centers with pot holes, the wiring is stressed and if water look at them they blow out, and the piping is not to the sizes to handle loads of demand and there is massive ground shifting taking place from using to much water from our underground reservoirs.

Issue 2 = Speaking of ground water and the use of to much water in the Coachella Valley where Palm Springs is located leads to issue 2 and that is our environment.

We water today more golf courses, feel more pools, wash down more concrete, and water more urban city like vegetation then we have ever seen in our valley.

The number 1 industry for the Coachella Valley and in particularly Palm Springs is tourism and tourists come for a single number 1 reason the weather.

This is going to become the disaster to us because our skies are not clear like they used to be there is more humidity days then we have tracked at our weather stations and this is going to get a whole lot worse.

This is in the thoughts of those that have the history of being here, beyond the 44 years of visiting and 10 years of living here in Palm Springs Logic and Catnip have experienced.

This the City of Palm Springs is our home and the visiting place for lots of great people that love our city and Logic knows there is nothing that Logic can do to help the issues that those in power are controlling, but Logic can write so I do and I share the thoughts above here.

Disclaimer:

By design Logic and Catnip have no vested interest in Palm Springs however we do have investments in the south end of the Coachella Valley in the Thermal area and we are looking to Thermal as the final resting place for our research.

What we mentioned earlier on yesterdays post is that we own and intend to build the Best Shopping Directory for Palm Springs when the area shows more then it is talking.

The city of Palm Springs and how it is ran as well has no financial impact or implications on Viper Logic, Logic, or Catnip. If these existed we would not be able to write this thought unbiased.

Hello LOGIC,

As a person who was born & raised in Palm Springs I have to say that the OLD GUARD of PS is what is wrong with the city. You can not grow & remain a village. The PS Mall was one time the place to be. As we have discussed in the past, once a mall loses it's major anchor store...JC Penny's in PS & moves to Palm Desert, then you just lost the battle. In the late 80's they put a K-Mart in it's place but that didn't last long. Plus, they moved the bowling alley out to Ramon Rd out by the old Drive-In which is gone now to. Then the Camelot Theatre, which was one of the best places in town to watch movies became to small & got replaced by the multiplex downtown. So there are a lot of factors that effect the system. When we are in town, we have to shop down the valley, El Paseo, Cabazon, & so on. As for the city government, heck they are worthless...& untill you are willing to develop some of the land & replace some of the old with new & make it work, then you will have nothing. As for the prices of rent or buying...well PS is TOO darn HIGH... That is another factor that has hurt the city. Shops in downtown cannot afford to stay open...

I say the PS missed out during the growth period between 2001-2007. You have to invest when you can afford it. I still love Palm Springs...It will always be home. If I ever get to move back it probably wouldn't be in the city of PS, but Indian Well...we will have to wait & see.
