A sad day in Hollywood...A great actor and one heck of a man died yesterday...Glenn Ford Is there anyone left? He was a class act on and off the screen. He will be missed. I know I will...
David &
I guess we have to consider ourselves fortunate to have grown up with these great actors - in a time when the terms "Hollywood" and the "Silver screen" referred to an almost mythical land far, far away - of which most of us could only imagine. I guess this is one of the reasons I feel so sad about the Racquet Club being demolished.
Don't get me wrong - some of today's stars are great, for sure. Unfortunately, there is little of the mystique which surrounded the likes of Clark Gable, W.C. Fields, Mae West (a lady ahead of her time, for sure!) Gary Cooper, but to name a few - oh yes, and not to forget Red Skelton: to my mind, probably the finest comedian of all time - one who never used a four-letter word in any of his routines, and still managed to have us rolling on the floor. They definitely will be missed.

I have to agree with you 100%.... The Raquetclub holds much history in its' walls. A very active member in it heyday was actor William Powell...You remember him as Doc in Mister Roberts..and many other great rolls. Bill Holden, another active member. The days of Palm Springs of old are over. There was a time you can go out for dinner and run into Dean Martin, Frank & Barbra Sinatra, Bob & Delores Hope, William Holden & Stefanie Powers, have a drink with Willim Powell, and the list was endless. Those are the days I remember.
