Hi...

I am looking for a women that went to Marywood High School or Marywood School for Girls in California. She was a Sophomore in 1969.

From the research I've been doing, I think the school is located in Palm Springs, not sure.

I live in NY and I am trying to find my birthmom. All I have is a name, picture and school.

If anyone knew of this school or has a yearbook or maybe even know her, can you please let me know.

However, if I have put my message in the wrong place, please forgive me as I am trying anything and everything to find her.

Hi Elysa, Marywood High School was a Catholic girls school in the city of Orange, California - maybe 60 miles from Palm Springs. The school closed in the 70's to make room for a new bishop's offices. It had some boarders, as well as day students. Some PS girls may have boarded at Marywood during the school year.

There is a boys high school in Anaheim, CA that was affiliated with Marywood, called Servite High. It still exists and has a website: www.servitehs.org It's possible some of the Servite alums may have known the person you're looking for. I graduated in '65 - too early to be of any help.

And now that I did some homework, I find that there are more several Marywood High Schools. There's one in Rancho Mirage which still exists, not far from Palm Springs. Here's their website address: www.mwpv.org/

Margaret Morris attended Marywood High School located in Orange, California and left midway through her sophmore year. She is in the sophmore yearbook. I have no idea where she went. I contacted our alumni association and they have no current knowledge of her whereabouts.

Hi fellow Marywood Alumni. Marywood's final day as a school was May 25th 1980. We finished our graduation ceremony everyone left and that was it. How very very sad. That whole final year we only had half a school to use the OCAD was already moving in. They were taking over the front part of the school so we had to use the other half. We could never have dances in the gym any more cause there would be retreats every weekend for the engaged and married couples. We felt very unwelcome in our own high school. On the year anniversary of the school closure announcement some girls staged a protest and refused to go to class. We all wore black arm bands on our arms. Those that stayed out were marked as permanent truant on there records. I didn't stay out cause I didn't want to mess up for college but I did keep my arm band on. I have to say the whole incident changed many peoples lives. You are very lucky that you ladies were able to attend Marywood at a time when the school was "whole and complete." HEY - There were so many that came and left Marywood during the era you are speaking. There were day students and boarding students. I boarded for my first three years. Obtaining my driver's license my senior year, I car pooled with other girls from Newport Beach area. If your birth mom's home was in the Palm Springs area, she probably boarded. Those of us that boarded at Marywood were very familiar with the fact that given the opportunity to "escape" for weekends resulted in many unplanned events. Making the "most" of our freedom was as accepted as the successful and unsuccessful abortions performed in the showers/bathroom. Girls ..... most from families of substantial means and fame .....boarded at Marywood from all over the world. True to any microcosm, we had our good, bad, sick and healthy. Boarding was a whole seperate education from our daily academics.
My best advice is for you to contact nuns from that era with the Sisters of Providence out of Illinois.......Sister Marie Helen was principal (probably dead given her age at the time) but Sister Marie Regis was very young and a favorite of many. The Sisters are your best bet. They have all the Marywood records and a VERY strong alumni program to raise funds. Having graduated in 1968 your mom was t least a year younger than but I think Mary Tooley was boarding in 1969 - from Newport Beach. If I can be of any more help - let me know. It was such a time of societal time of "change"........glad your mom had the courage to give you life.

Hi! I graduated from Marywood in 1959 and am trying to find out if there's going to be a reunion next year. You mentioned an alumni association and I wad wondering how I can contact them. Do you have any information you can give me? Thanks!
