We arrived back from "That Other Place" in the wee hours of Monday morning, and let me tell you, folks, Phoenix can't even begin to hold a candle to PS!!! Even Carolee, Marvin and Judy had to agree, so next year it looks like Palm Springs - YES!!! Other than the warm temps, we could have been set down in any major sprawling metropolis. In fact, if one wanted to take in any of the local interests, one almost had to plan a day trip. For anyone unfamiliar with the place, the street layouts were a nightmare - took us almost 35 minutes to accomplish what should have been at the most, a 15 minute drive from the airport to the townhouse we had rented. The trip to Tombstone was great, (and Boot Hill cemetery is a 'must see'), but as far as Sedona is concerned, IMHO, that place is just an overpriced tourist trap. Yeah, the buttes and mesas were impressive, but that was about it! ($5.95 for a plain old cheese sandwich - no thanks)!
Anyway, at least now we can begin planning for next year's dinner. (We dined at a couple of the 'better' restaurants in the Phoenix area - including the Pointe South mountain Resort restaurant - but that's another horror story, so I'll leave that until later)
Right now we are getting walloped by Hurricane Noel, and we'll probably lose powere anytime soon, so I'll get this off now.
Hope everyone has a great weekend,
Don
Glad you made it home safe. Sorry to hear that you had to fly right into Hurricane Noel. Not very fun. Hope all is well. As for you holiday to Arizona...well atleast you can say you went & experienced it! I have been to Phoenix too...I didn't like it much either. I have been to many deserts around the world & I always find myself missing Palm Springs. In 2008 we want to see the 2 of you in PS for our annual dinner. We will be making an anouncment soon!!! Just the time & date...The place will be the surpise. You will have to checkout the photos from this years dinner. We had tons of fun & look forward to next year. Plus, we missed having you 2 their as well.
Hey, before I forget... How do you like your new apartment? Well enjoy the week...Hope the weather isn't too tough on you.

Finally got our power back after Hurricane Noel went by. We were lucky - it was only out for 20 hours; some of the folks out in the boonies are not slated to get it back until sometime this evening. Still, with the overnite temps touching on 32F, it made for a chilly evening! Also, we did manage to save all the food in the fridge and freezer, so it could have been worse. Quite a lot of property damage - coastal roads washed out, beaches severely eroded, trees uprooted (especially those with leaves still on them), etc. Quite a few boats broke their moorings and ended up either being sunk or tossed ashore by the winds and tidal surge.
The dinner photos look great - I am going to make sure that Judy, Carolee and Marvin see them, just to rub in what we missed(!). Especially in view of the horrible meal we were served at Rustler's Roost. Ah well, chalk it up to an experience. (Not one that will be repeated)!
We're not scheduled to move into the new apartment until the weekend of Nov 24, but we're staring to pack now - I've got at lest 20 boxes of books packed, with a few more to go. One never realizes just how much has accumulated until it comes time to downsize and move! (Hopefully this will be the last move until we move south)!
